How do I pick a dog bed for my dog?

Firstly, it’s important to measure your dog for their bed to ensure they have enough room to get comfy, but without the bed having too much space around your dog.

Depending on the breed of your dog and how they like to sleep, mattresses are great for pooches who love to sprawl out, whereas hard sided beds are good for dogs who sleep on tiled/wooden floors which may get a little cooler during winter.

You can read our full guide on choosing the perfect dog bed over on the blog.

Do I need more than one dog bed?

Yes, but not necessarily to use all at the same time. For example, dog mattresses are a great option for crate sleeping and travel, cooling mats are a summer essential to keep your dog comfortable in the heat and memory foam beds are more suitable as your dog gets older and their joints become more sensitive. Changing out your dog’s bed seasonally helps keep them happy all year round.

It’s also crucial to replace your dog’s bed as soon as it shows signs of wear and tear. Especially as your dog grows from pup to adult. Your dog’s bed will go through teething, chewing, toilet training and excitable playtime along with your dog, so it’s important that their safe space stays familiar and comfortable.

Does my dog need a blanket?

This depends entirely on your dog! If they love to snuggle outside of their own bed (on the sofa or the rug perhaps) investing in a good quality dog blanket will keep them comfy, warm and help protect your soft furnishings around your home. Blankets are also great for travelling, as they can carry the safe scent of home wherever you take your dog in their travel crate.

How often should I wash my dog’s bed?

Over on the blog we have a full guide to pet bed care and hygiene, but the bottom line is you need to wash your pet’s bedding as often as you wash your own. Pet bedding can contract parasites as your dog does- so keeping up with a cleaning regime with our machine washable pet beds will help prevent infestations around the home.

It’s important to use pet-friendly laundry detergent and disinfectant sprays on their bedding.

Top tip: Alternate your pet’s bedding clean or have a spare bed ready for washing day, so your dog doesn’t miss their safe space scent and surroundings.
